President Hollande meets with Director General Amano (Paris, 19 November 2012)
On 19th November 2012 in Paris, President François Hollande received Mr. Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The French Head of State reiterated France’s full support to IAEA’s action against proliferation, its endeavours towards nuclear safety and security, as well as its role in responsible promotion of civilian nuclear technologies. He commended Mr. Amano’s achievements as head of the IAEA.
They both mentioned the global need for reinforced nuclear safety, on the basis of lessons learned from the Fukushima accident. President Hollande paid tribute to the IAEA’s actions for promoting the highest level of nuclear safety. He told Mr. Amano that nuclear safety and its continuous improvement are a core priority for France.
They also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue, shortly after IAEA issued, on 16 November, a new report strengthening the international community’s concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear programme. The French President expressed to Mr. Amano France’s full support for making Iran abide by its international commitments and fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
