Nuclear security: entry into force of the Amendment to the CPPNM
A few days after the Nuclear Security Summit, in which the President of the Republic participated, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that the required number of states had ratified the Amendment to the Convention for the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) in order to allow its entry into force.
The Convention and its Amendment are essential tools in addressing the threat of nuclear and radiological terrorism.
France has actively worked towards the entry into force of this amended convention, by carrying out around 150 diplomatic démarches between 2015 and 2016 in order to encourage Member States to take action.
