The IAEA Board of governors will be held in Vienna from June 4th to June 8th.
As usual, the meeting will have a specific focus on nuclear verifications implemented in 2011, and take action on the budget for 2013. It will alos also deal with the action plan for nuclear safety, which was adopted after the incident of Fukushima Daiichi.
The provisional agenda includes amongst other:
Consideration of the 2011 annual report, which sums up the main IAEA activities.
Technical cooperation activities will be examined on the basis of a report assessing the progress made in the application of the 2011-2012 technical cooperation programmes, in the management of financial resources, and in the application of the programme at a regional level. The implementation of the project on the integrated and sustainable management of the water systems and shared pools in the Sahel region will be discussed by the Board.
The 2013 budget should be decided upon by the Board on the basis of the conclusions of the Program and Budget Committee meeting held in May.
The Board will assess the results of the implementation of the action plan for nuclear safety.
Many topics regarding the nuclear verification will be on the agenda, such as:
Recent safeguard agreements and additional protocols;
Safeguards implementation report for 2011;
Safeguards in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea;
NPT safeguards and UN Security Council resolutions implementation in Iran.
NTP safeguards implementation in Syria.
The Board of Governors will also consider the agenda of the 56th IAEA General Conference, which will be held in September 2012.
