Film projection: Ice & Sky
One week before the COP21, the Permanent Mission of France and the United Nations Information Service propose, on Monday, 23rd November at 18:30, a film projection of the documentary movie on the the life ands work of the glaciologist Claude Lorius, and his contribution to the understanding of climate change. The projection will be at the TOP KINO Theater, Rahlgasse 1 (Ecke Theobaldgasse), 1060 Wien.
Claude Lorius is a pioneer of glaciology in Antartica and was among the very first contributors to the prooving of the impact of human activities on climate. Based on archive footage, Luc Jaquet’s movie « Ice & Sky» tells the story and work of this 82 year old French glaciologist who keeps on fighting with an intact passion to the preservation of one of the most outstanding ecosystem of this planet. His sampling, taken through up to 3 600 meters deep drilling, enabled to preciasly draw thousands of years of climate evolution. Up to these days, they are the baseground for our understanding on Antartica. Ice & Sky is the visually breathtaking story of this scientific adventure and a tribute to one of the most dedicated advocate of the climate change issue. .
Proposed precisely one week before the opening, in Paris, of the 21st United Conference on Climate Change (COP 21/CMP11), this film projection will be followed by a debate with:
- Mr. Helmut HOJESKY, Head of the Division for Air Quality and Climate Change, Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management,
- Mr. Harald EGERER, Head of Vienna Liaison Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),
- Mr. Martin NESIRKY, Director of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna.
