Adoption of a treaty banning nuclear weapons (New York, 7 July 2017)
Like many States, France did not take part in the negotiations of this instrument unsuited to the international security context and to which France does not intend to become a party. In accordance with its obligations under the NPT, France remains determined to pursue the next concrete steps towards nuclear disarmament, giving priority to the entry into force of the CTBT and the negotiation of an FMCT.

60th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (March 2017)
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) holds its 60th session in Vienna from 13 to 17 March 2017. Advocating a comprehensive and balanced approach to drug problems, France is a candidate to the April 2017 elections for membership of the CND for the period 2018-2021.

CTBTO: two new French stations now operational
Two major events occurred in December 2016 for France and the CTBTO: first, the certification of the radionuclide station RN32 in Dumont d’Urville, as well as the reestablishment of the CTBTO’s last hydroacoustic station HA04, in the Crozet Islands. Both constitute an important step towards achieving the goal of establishing the CTBTO’s International Monitoring System (IMS), which now only requires a few more hydroacoustic stations to provide effective monitoring of the world’s oceans for signs of nuclear explosions.
